Little Feat are a seminal rock band that came to prominence in the 70's by bringing all the strands and history of American music into one melting pot and serving a mighty meal of music that has effected the lives of music fans around the world ever since. These days the band still produce great albums and tour the world playing festivals and concert halls in all the major cities, they even have their own fan festival every year at a holiday resort in Negril Jamaca where they take over a beach and its hotel for two weeks. In-between times Paul Barrera and Fred Tackett (The Little Feat Guitar Duo) also release albums and tour the world as "The Little Feat Guitar Duo", perhaps reaching the places the band can't reach.

I got the chance to witness one of these at Steve and Clancy McDonalds Square Wheels House Concert in Strathpeffer in November 2009.

Heres my video log, and the Medicine Show podcast - I chat to Steve and Clancy McDonald and some others at what was a remarkable concert with Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett (The Little Feat Guitar Duo) November 19th 2009, I chat with Paul and Fred as part of the podcast after that. Enjoy!

Down On The Farm

And now the whole concert which will be broadcast on The Medicine Show Christmas Special December 23rd 2009 on Nevis Radio.

The programme opens with the very appropriate "To Much Fun" then I talk to Paul Barrera and we listen to Fred take the lead on "Honest Man", a song he wrote with Lowell George, then he talks to me about Negril. After that we can all settle back for two of the great musicians of our time having the time of their lives, enjoy!!

The Coal Porters. Sid Griffin, www.sidgriffin.com the band’s leader and mandolin player, was a leader in the Paisley Underground of the ‘80s with the Long Ryders, one of the founding fathers of alt-country. Griffin moved to the UK and formed the Coal Porters, a vehicle for his love of the Byrds- and Gram Parsons-influenced roots rock. Over the years, the Coal Porters have evolved into The UK's top traditional bluegrass outfit. Griffin is also an author and music historian, penning such books as Million Dollar Bash: Bob Dylan, The Band, and the Basement Tapes and Gram Parsons: A Musical Biography, taking the story to the small screen as a BBC TV documentry.

We find him and the band here in concert, with an interview midway through from The Square Wheels House Concert in Strathppeffer in the Highlands of Scotland, in conversation with Rob Ellen of the Medicine Show.

Eddie Walker is arguably or finest finger style blues guitarist, Fraser Speirs Scotland premier harp player, together they offer the complete acoustic Blues experience and roots exploration.

Eddie says on his web site about Fraser http://www.eddiewalker.net
I'm moving on with my new playing partner Fraser Speirs and how enjoyable and successful this is proving. The more gigs we do the better it seems to the both of us. So many good gigs last year in Scotland we moved into Northern England for the first time this February and return club dates, festivals and more new dates are in the diary already for the next 12 months. Have a look at Fraser's website for an insight into his background and professional career as a top harmonica showman and regularly sought studio session player. And such a great player he is too. http://www.fraserspeirs.co.uk

Matt has a larger than life showmanship that has been earning him a fervent and steadfast audience wherever he graces the stage. We had the great pleasure of doing two shows one at The Argyll Hotel Ullapool (Scotlands Village of Music) 10th Feb 2009.

Matt's sprawling blues, roots and rock musical hybrid with his sorrowing and soulful voice has sparked a phenomenal buzz on the east coast of Canada and that grass roots word of mouth can not be contained any longer! www.stubbyfingers.ca
